Restricted Plumbing Worker Registration Courses (South Australia)
Individuals who perform routine service work on water based fire
protection systems in South Australia are required to hold a
restricted registration. There are two registration classes
available to meet industry requirements;
- One covering routine service of fire hose reels (up to yearly)
and fire hydrants (up to six-monthly), and
- One covering fire hydrants, fire pumpsets and fire sprinkler
systems (up to six-monthly) as well as fire hose reels (up to
yearly).
A Trainee registration class is also available for new employees
allowing them to undertake routine service work under supervision
of a person who holds full registration, whilst they complete the
required training.
The changes introduced by the South Australian Government
require anyone undertaking unsupervised routine service work
covered by the restricted registration class for hose reel and
hydrant systems must be enrolled in a relevant training course
prior to 1 January 2020, and must complete that course and have
been granted registration prior to 6 April, 2021.
Individuals undertaking unsupervised routine service work
covered by the restricted registration class for hydrant systems,
pumps, sprinkler systems and hose reels must be enrolled in a
relevant training course prior to 1 November 2019, and must
complete that course and have been granted registration prior to 6
April, 2021.

Course Information
To support technicians in South Australia gain the appropriate
level of registration, FPA Australia has developed a custom
training course for each of the two restricted registration
classes.
The training courses are designed to suit both experienced
technicians and those seeking to learn new skills.
