Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing - Training Course

  

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

  

This course is for anyone currently working in the fire protection industry or an individual starting new employment with a fire protection company, who wants to develop the skills and knowledge to:

 

  • Conduct six monthly and yearly routine service in accordance with AS 1851-2012 on fire extinguishers and fire blankets;
  • Install portable fire extinguishers and fire blankets in accordance with AS 2444-2001;
  • Conduct hydrostatic testing in accordance with AS 1851-2012 on fire extinguishers;
  • Conduct six monthly and yearly routine service in accordance with AS 1851-2012 on hose reels; and
  • Conduct six monthly and yearly routine service in accordance with AS 2293 - Part 2 on emergency and exit lighting.

  

WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?

  

The course covers the skills and knowledge required to undertake the routine service activities listed below:

 

  • Managing of work schedules and day-to-day activities;
  • Safe lifting techniques and dangerous goods transport requirements;
  • Identifying first attack firefighting equipment;

  • Identifying classes of fire and hazards;
  • Understanding basics of fire principles;
  • Understanding key Australian Standards, regulations and codes when maintaining and installing fire extinguishers and fire blankets;
  • Understanding the requirements for routine inspection and testing of fire hose reels;
  • Understanding the requirements for routine inspection and testing of fire extinguishers and fire blankets;
  • Hydrostatic testing of fire extinguishers;
  • Testing of emergency and exit lighting systems; and
  • Familiarisation with tools and equipment associated with fire equipment maintenance.

  

 

WHAT IS REQUIRED BEFORE ENROLLING IN THIS COURSE?

  

  • To meet the on-the-job training requirements for this course, participants will need access to different sites with the following equipment available:
      • Fire Extinguishers.
      • Fire Blankets.
      • Hose Reels.
      • Emergency and exit lighting.

 

 

COURSE STRUCTURE AND DATES?

 

The training course is held at FPA Australia National Office in Blackburn North Victoria, and is a combination of classroom and workplace based learning. The course outline is listed below:

 

Classroom based learning - 1 & 2 October 2019 at FPA Australia (Blackburn North VIC)

  • 2 days face to face training.

 

Workplace based learning - 3 October 2019 to 20 October 2019

  • Conduct 6 monthly and yearly routine service on 20 fire extinguishers and 10 fire blankets at 10 different sites.
  • A copy of the logbook / Summary sheet for each test to be provided, signed by the applicant and their designated supervisor.

 

Classroom based learning - 21 & 22 October at FPA Ausralia (Blackburn North VIC)

  • 2 days face to face training.

 

Workplace based learning - 23 October 2019 to 11 November 2019

  • Conduct 6 monthly and yearly routine service on:
    • Emergency and exit lighting at 6 different sites - (Site must have multiple fittings)
    • Fire Hose Reels at 10 different sites.
  • Complete the installation of fire extinguishers and blankets survey activities of 3 extinguishers and 3 fire blankets
  • A copy of the logbook / Summary sheet for each test to be provided, signed by the applicant and their designated supervisor.

 

Classroom based learning and assessment - 12 to 13 November 2019 at FPA Australia (Blackburn North VIC).

  • 2 days face to face training (including practical assessments)

 

PLEASE NOTE:

1. All onsite tests must be conducted under direct supervision (in person also on site) by an experienced technician.

2. All supplied logbook sheets for the onsite learning must be signed by the applicant and the applicant's mentor / supervisor.

3. A copy of the relevant Australian Standards are required during the face to face training, either electronically or hardcopy.
