Water Conservation and Fire Protection
Water-based fire protection systems are critical to the protection of life and property. Water conservation is also a major community priority.
FPA Australia recognises that fire protection systems must be designed and maintained in a way that minimises water usage without impacting on fire safety.
Fire protection systems may operate infrequently over the life of a building, but they must be ready at all times.
Furthermore, FPA Australia recognises that by quickly extinguishing a small fire, water-based fire protection systems save millions of litres of water, as well as lives and property.
With the increasing need to conserve water, the fire protection industry is working towards minimising the use of this important resource across all areas.
Achieving water conservation without compromising fire safety requires an integrated approach involving the fire protection industry, water supply industries, government, building owners and insurance companies.
The aim of this section of the FPA Australia website is to provide information on the issues, to report on the progress being made and to make available other useful documents and links.
As information becomes available, it will be added to this section, so if this is a topic that is of interest to you, please bookmark this page and visit regularly.
