BMF compliance & enforcement report released

Posted on : Wednesday, 2 May 2018

A long-awaited report from Professor Peter Shergold and Bronwyn Weir into the compliance and enforcement systems for the Australian building and construction industry has been released, after being presented to the Building Ministers' Forum earlier this week.

Commissioned last year by the BMF, the report explores the problematic shortcomings in implementation of the National Construction Code, and makes 24 recommendations for improvements.

"The compliance and enforcement systems have not been adequate to prevent these problems from emerging and they need to change as a matter of priority," the report said.

"There is no panacea or 'silver bullet' to resolve these problems. Our 24 recommendations are intended to operate as a suite of solutions which will address weaknesses in a comprehensive manner."

The report is available here.
