BMF compliance & enforcement assessment making progress

Posted on : Wednesday, 13 December 2017

The assessment of Australia's building compliance and enforcement systems by independent experts Professor Peter Shergold AC and Bronwyn Weir is making headway, the Building Ministers' Forum (BMF) heard on Monday.

The BMF met to evaluate progress of the Assessment of the Effectiveness of Compliance and Enforcement Systems for Building and Construction Industry across Australia. The project was commissioned in June 2017 to address problems in the sector highlighted following the Grenfell fire in London that same month.

"Ministers are confident that this important work is on track, and relevant stakeholders are providing meaningful input into their considerations," the BMF said in a communique.

"All Building Ministers are committed to strengthening the effective implementation of the National Construction Code and the work being undertaken by Professor Shergold and Ms Weir is an important step on that path."

The project's final report is due in early 2018.
