NSW Government releases new standard template for fire safety statements
Posted on : Friday, 19 February 2021
This week the Department of Planning, Industry, and
Environment released a new template form for annual and
supplementary fire safety statements.
The form -
available on the Department's website - must be used from
Monday, 1 March, 2021.
It was updated to reflect regulatory changes following the
commencement of the Building and Development Certifiers Act
2018 (the Act) which changed some regulatory arrangements
and terms - for example, replacing 'Competent Fire Safety
Practitioner' with 'Accredited Practitioner (Fire
Safety)'.
In making the changes, the Government acknowledged its
approval of FPA Australia as an accreditation authority under
s.59 of the Act, and its acceptance of the Fire Protection
Accreditation Scheme (FPAS) as mandatory for most fire systems
designers and for fire safety assessors.
Amendments have been made to the detail on the form itself and in
the supporting notes, so practitioners are advised to read all of
them carefully.
For fire safety statements issued:
- before 1 March, 2021,
version 3.0 of the form should be used; and
- from 1 March, 2021, onwards,
version 3.1 should be used.
