NSW Government publishes details on FPAS recognition

The NSW Government has published updated information on recognition of the Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme (FPAS) to accredit individuals as 'competent fire safety practitioners' under the 2017 fire safety reforms.

NSW Fair Trading's new Fire Safety Practitioners webpage explains the co-regulatory framework that has recognised FPAS, and what fire protection roles that recognition covers under the Fire Safety Assessment and Fire Systems Design classes of accreditation. Both classes of accreditation are currently available.

The page also confirms that FPAS recognition is expected to be formally gazetted in January 2020.

"The Fire Protection Association Australia's accreditation scheme has been approved by the Secretary of the Department of Finance, Services and Innovation. It will become operational after an order has been published in the NSW Government Gazette, which is expected in January 2020," the page states.
