Fire Protection Association Australia (FPA Australia) congratulates Paul Baxter on his appointment as the new Commissioner of Fire and Rescue NSW.

NSW Minister for Emergency Services the Hon. David Elliott, announced the appointment saying Mr Baxter, currently the National Commander and CEO of the New Zealand Fire Service and President and Board Chair of the Australasian Fire & Emergency Service Authorities Council, was a highly qualified and experienced emergency services professional.

Mr Baxter replaces outgoing Commissioner Greg Mullins after he stepped down last year. He will start work in March or early April and Deputy Commissioner Jim Hamilton will be Acting Commissioner in the interim.

"The position of Commissioner Fire and Rescue NSW is one of the most important jobs in the state," said FPA Australia CEO Scott Williams.

"We wish Mr Baxter all the best on the appointment and for the future. FPA Australia looks forward to working with him on important issues that will deliver improved fire safety outcomes for the people of NSW, including the proposed changes to fire safety regulations currently being considered by the NSW Government."
