Fire Protection Association Australia (FPA Australia) has won a competitive tender to be the successful bidder for a new contract with the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science through the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB).

The contract will see FPA Australia form a strategic partnership with Arup, WSP Building, Red Fire Engineering, Umow Lai Vicand UniQuest to perform a Calibration Study of the proposed Fire Safety Verification Method for the National Construction Code (NCC).

"The partnership brings together some of the most respected organisations in the Fire Protection Industry and is unique in the Association's history," said FPA Australia CEO Scott Williams.

"Being awarded this tender recognises the superior expertise the partnership brings with the peak body of the Fire Protection Industry, FPA Australia, partnering with some of the elite fire engineering and risk management organisations in the country.

"This is a highly capable group and we look forward to commencing this important piece of work in February 2017," said Mr Williams.

It has been identified that the Performance Requirements of the NCC remained predominantly qualitative since their inception in 1996 and that, to assist with the uptake of performance-based design, quantification of the Performance Requirements was identified as a key program.

As part of the quantification work, the ABCB has developed a Fire Safety Verification Method to assist industry and the partnership announced today will perform a calibration study of the Method for the NCC.
