Annual Wage Decision Determinations


Following the Annual Wage review decision on 31st May 2016, the Fair Work Commission has issued Determinations reflecting the wage adjustment to the 122 Modern Awards. The Annual Wage decision increased wage rates by 2.4% and are effective from the first pay period to commence on or after 1st July 2016. These wage rates are the minimum rates to be paid to Employees. The FWC will subsequently issue Determinations with respect to Allowances.


Review of Modern Awards - Building group


As part of the 4 yearly review of Modern Awards, the Fair Work Commission has reached the stage of Group 4 Awards which includes the Building group of Awards and which includes the Electrical, Electronic and Communications Contracting Award as well as the Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers Award.


This process involves a review of the structure and technical aspects of the Awards. The FWC has developed "exposure" awards which include a simplification in terms of wording and appearance of the Awards. An example of the restructure is to convert percentage amounts (as currently provided for with respect to Allowances) into actual "dollar" amounts.


Also, to assist in calculating provisions such as Overtime, to provide schedules that set out base rates as well as overtime rates in actual dollar terms (converted from percentage amounts).


Submissions with respect to technical aspects of the building group of exposure awards, are due by 30th June 2016.
