It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of ex Wormald employee Roland Philip Wetzig. Roland passed away on Wednesday 24th of August aged 65, surrounded by his family following a battle with cancer. As a loyal employee of Wormald for over 45 years Roland made many friendships and will be sorely missed.

FPA Australia would like to congratulate Mr Patrick McInerney, Director of international ozone protection and synthetic greenhouse gas policy for Australia’s Department of the Environment and Energy. Mr McInerney, who was in the 2016 Queen’s birthday honours, received the Federal Public Service Medal for outstanding public service for his role in the protection of the ozone layer and the climate system.

Unemployment Decreases Slightly in July

Data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that the estimated seasonally adjusted Unemployment rate decreased to 5.7% (from 5.8%) with trend Unemployment series remaining at 5.7%. However, both Indicators showed increases in Employment. The ABS notes that the Trend series provides a better measure as it “smooths” out the labour data.

Wage Price Index - June 2016

Wage growth remains low across many industries. The seasonally adjusted Wage Price Index rose by 0.5% in the March Quarter 2016, with an annual increase of 2.1% (same as in the March Quarter, 2016).

Recent inquiries have been made to Fire Protection Association Australia by members in Victoria into the levy contribution under the portable long service leave scheme in Victoria (COINVEST). Concerns have been expressed regarding the payment/contribution by Employers of the 2.7% of total gross wage per employee (not deducted from wage) levy when not engaged in the construction industry in Victoria.
