FPA Australia - Certification Program

Introduction

The initiative to provide Certification Programs has come from requests by government agencies, individual businesses, community groups and other bodies expressing concern with the quality of practitioners and businesses operating in their various respective field(s). Many of the concerns related to a lack of any credentialing frameworks for individuals and businesses operating in their respective fields.

The FPA Australia Certification Programs are completely voluntarily and provides candidates the opportunity to demonstrate to clients, end-users and the community that they have met the benchmark for minimum skills in their respective fields.

The Certification Programs contains two components. A component for Practitioners and one for Businesses.

To be Certified by FPA Australia, Practitioners and Business must undergo a rigorous process of documentation analysis and in addition for Practitioners peer interview. Practitioners must meet continuing professional development requirements to maintain Certification.

Benefits

For Practitioners and Businesses, Certification provides formal acknowledgement to prospective clients or current clients that the Practitioner and/or Business has met the requirements, independently determined by industry to provide professional services in their respective field(s).

Practitioners and Business will be issued with Certificates and in addition for Practitioners-photo identification cards.

Through promotion and industry acknowledgement, the Certification Programs will become recognized and accepted by the wider business community as the benchmark for Practitioners and Businesses engaged in their respective sector of the fire protection industry.

Register of Practitioners and Businesses

FPA Australia will maintain a web-based register of Certified Practitioners and Businesses for each respective field e.g. Workplace Emergency Response, Bushfire Planning and Design. The register is available for members and non-members to access and will provide a complete list of Practitioners and Businesses who have met the requirements to receive Certification.

To view the register of Certified Practitioners and Businesses, or for further information on a program click on the appropriate program at the top right of the screen.

Complimentary to the FPA Australia Certification Program is an existing scheme for registration of inspectors, certifiers and fire system testers that has been operated by the Australian Fire Safety Practitioners Accreditation Board (AFSPAB) since 1995.

AFSPAB uses FPA Australia to run their secretariat and FPA Australia CEO Ross Hodge is the nominated Public Officer for the Board, which is registered separately as an association.
